Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty, most often involves placement of a silicone chin implant to augment or reshape the chin to restore facial proportion.  A weak or retrusive chin detracts from overall facial harmony, and correcting this imbalance creates a stronger and more pleasing facial structure.

SURGERY

Surgery is almost always done under general anesthesia, and is often done in conjunction with nose surgery and/or chin liposuction.  Incisions may be located in the crease under the chin, or inside the mouth depending on patient preference.

RECOVERY

Chin surgery is usually tolerated very well, and most patients return to work within a week.  A small amount of swelling is expected, and will completely resolve within a couple of weeks.
